9: 7-17: Jesus feeds the five thousands. Jesus gives thanks
to the giver of all goods and they go forward to feed those who are hungry. The
people who burn themselves out others are those who become bread. Jesus himself
shows us the way. He himself became bread for others. In Jesus all men’s needs
are supplied. There is hunger of the soul. There is in every man, sometimes at
least, a longing to find something in which he may invest his life. It is this
bread we find in Jesus in the Eucharist – ‘the bread of life’ to quench our
hunger and thirst.
