Mk. 8: 31-38: Peter’s reaction to Jesus’ suffering and death seems to be the satanic opposition to God’s will. Peter represents the natural reaction of all people to suffering and failure. Mt. 15: 21-28: The Canaanite woman had great love by which her faith grew to a visible form in contact with Jesus. This faith worshipped Jesus with indomitable persistence. The word of God.

But Jesus’ vision goes further: all these good customs and religious practices (feasts and meditations of our times included) easily become a smoke screen, hiding the essential from us; a constant readiness to listen to God’s call, a simple trust in his mercy which alone can save us.
