Luke 2: 1-20: The birth of Jesus in
the context of a worldwide census brings out the significance of Jesus for the
whole world. Jesus as the ‘first son’ signifies to be consecrated as the custom
demands. The ‘manger’ (a feeding trough) speaks about Jesus as the food and
sustenance for the world. Unlike that we find –Isaiah 1:3 ‘the shepherds’ who
recognize Jesus represents the new community of God. So Christmas comes to us
with a new vision and a new meaning for our life.
