4, Mt. 10: 1-15

Jesus appoints the twelve to help him in his mission. The 12 disciples represent the 12 tribes of Israel (19:28). They symbolize the community of the disciples of the risen Lord (28:19f). These are the missionaries upon whom Jesus trusted to have attitudes which inculcate – detachment, dependence on God, courage in the face of opposition. It is not the letter of instruction but its spirit we have to follow in the life.
