Mk. 2: 18-22 In the Jewish tradition fasting is a
sign of repentance and it helps to achieve closeness to God. But for Jesus joy
and celebration are more appropriate than fasting to achieve the closeness of
God. So he depicts himself as the bridegroom, in whose presence the disciples
expresses joy and make merry. Jesus indirectly announces the new relationship
with God and man in place of old rituals and customs.
